From the Director

For many reasons, Spring is my favorite time of year. I love to see the purple crocus push up out of the ground and smell freshly cut grass. Everything seems to return to life.

Those of us who are a part of Mary’s Place are fortunate enough to witness this transformation over and over again in the families we serve. Last week one of our adult participants was kind enough to come to a board meeting and share his story with our board members. He talked about the sudden death of his wife and how he now deals with the sole responsibility of raising his five children, who were all under the age of seven when their mother died. In a calm and confident manner, he spoke of how his life has changed, how his family has adapted and how Mary’s Place has helped them over the past three years. As he
spoke, I couldn’t help remembering his first few months in the Young Widow and Widowers Support Group. He was a man so devastated by grief that he was barely able to speak.

Although the scars will remain regardless of how much time passes, he has learned to trust, to hope and to laugh again. He has returned to life. This is our hope...for all our children and families.

Warmly,
Lisa Peluso

Inspired Loomis Student Organizes Fundraiser

Our thanks to Claire Francis, a
student at the Loomis Chaffee
School in Windsor. After
visiting Mary’s Place for a tour
with her class, Claire decided to
have a fundraiser at the school.
With the money she raised, she
purchased several items,
including many from our wish
list.

Doll House

Our friends at Griffin Land,
Windsor, recently delivered a
new doll house for Mary’s Place.
Several of the employees took
part in refurbishing it. Our
children were delighted to see it.
The doll house can sometimes
play an integral role in helping
children through the grieving
process.
