2009 Ray of Hope Gala

What a wonderful night it was,our 5th annual Ray of Hope Gala at the Hartford Golf Club on September 25th. Over 250 guests browsed our silent auction items as they mingled over horsd’oeuvres and cocktails. When it was time for dinner, guests were seated at tables named after some of the children who participate in our programs.

The centerpiece on each table was a beautiful clay pot that had been painted by our children and that contained a gorgeous flower arrangement.

We were most appreciative to have Denise D’Ascenzo of WFSB TV as our gracious master of ceremonies for the evening and we could not have been more honored to have Dr. Bernie Siegel as our special guest.

Bernie, who spent years working with terminally ill patients, shared his wisdom and thoughts with our guests. It was truly an inspiring and entertaining presentation.

One of the many highlights of the evening was the screening of the Mary’s Place DVD that featured our children and families and that was produced by Jim Aldridge of mobilhouseparty.com. Jim put his heart and soul into finalizing a DVD that truly depicted our families’ stories of grief, healing and hope.

Our Ray of Hope Award was presented to Glen Pelligrinelli, a volunteer facilitator, for his dedication and commitment to the children and families of Mary’s Place. Glen, our only male facilitator, has been a part of the Mary’s Place family for the past ten years. He is an exceptional role model to many of our children as was evident in a letter written by one of our participants and shared at the Gala.

The night continued on with a brief live auction for which our own gala co chair Robin Roncari served as auctioneer. All and all, it was a remarkable and touching evening.
